Alicia was born March 1, 1996 at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Her parents moved the family to a very rural, more affordable area in Stagecoach, Nevada. However, because of her mother’s job with the State, Alicia commuted 45 minutes every day and attended school in Carson City.
Throughout elementary and middle school, Alicia faced intense teasing and bullying and was singled out by her classmates. This struggle, which so many of our American youth face, became overwhelming for Alicia. However, when she began attending the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, she became engaged in arts and music programming. She fully participated and leveraged this connection into a positive action in overcoming the stresses she was facing on a daily basis. Alicia chose to create something positive from her negative experience.
At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Alicia has continually proven herself to be a leader. She has been the President of the Keystone Club three years in a row, assisted in creating and establishing a Glee Club, participates in all art projects, assists in organizing programming such as Wisdom Circle, Money Matters, and Girls Circle and volunteers for all Club based events. Younger members look up to Alicia because of her fun, kind persona, and she uses this role model status to help empower them. She is often found encouraging younger members to participate in Club programming and listens to their needs. She is truly an example of positive attitude in action.
