How much does this cost?

The Mentor Center is a free program offered through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, supported by Partnership Carson City and federal grant money.

How do I know it is safe?

Mentors go through a background check and screening process as well as training and interviews with The Mentor Center before ever being matched.

Will a mentor try to take over?

Mentors are not parent replacements, they are simply a friend to listen, hang out with, and be supportive. Mentoring happens once a week for at least an hour.


Children who are mentored:

  • 46% Less likely to use drugs

  • 27% Less likely to use alcohol

  • 33% Less likely to engage in violence

  • Likely to skip half as many days of school

  • Likely to have better relationships with peers and adults

The Mentor Center is Carson City’s original youth mentoring program. It was established in 1999 and currently has nearly 100 active matches in the community.
